1Up-USA Bike Rack with VeloSock

Posted on February 4, 2025December 22, 2025 by Journey Waters

When I set out to install a bike rack on the van, my first choice was a door mounted system that I saw on a Winnebago Travato made by Summit Products. Since I had a Carefree Awning system, I had no choice but to go with the Summit Roof rack so this made sense. Then I soon learned that Summit was not going to sell the bike racks anymore. My guess is that they were having issues with the Transit Doors too. The doors are flexing too much when weight is on them and developing cracks. Others that were using the doors to carry items have discovered this and now Summit has as well. In fact, they are requiring interior supports for the install and still, there are issues.

I searched around for other options and nothing was coming up so that left me with the hitch mounted Tray Racks. I had a hitch so this was the logical next step. My biggest concern was if the door could open with the rack mounted empty on the hitch. I tried out a few; Yakima Single Speed  and the Kuat Transfer 1. I didn’t like how far out the stuck and they did interfere with the door. The third one I had read a lot about, but had no way of trying it out without ordering was the 1Up-USA Bike Rack. After days and days of research, I took the plunge and ordered the 1Up-USA Super Duty.

When the 1Up-USA bike rack arrived, I noticed the box was rather small, but heavy. No assembly was required so I was surprised as the other racks were rather large once assembled. I opened it up, unfolded it and put it in the hitch. It looked great. Now it was time to put the bike in it. It could not have been any easier.

Next up was to see if it would fit with my Velosock. The Velosock is a bike cover that works with Tray style carriers and can be used during transport. Unlike the few other transport bike covers out there, this one is supposed to actually last more than a day. I installed the Velosock on my mountain bike and it fit well despite my bike being a XXL.

While I have not taken it on a long road trip yet, I think this set up will work perfectly for me. The 1Up-USA rack is awesome and I can add onto it in the future if I ever need to carry more than one bike and that Velosock, it is heavy duty, fights tight and should do its job well.
